San Jose pitching coach has saucy side

The Giants hope that San Jose pitching coach Jerry Cram has the right recipe to get their pitchers to the major leagues. His players already know about his skill around the grill.

Cram is marketing his own brand of barbecue sauce, Jammers Country Style Barbecue Sauce. He began selling around the ballpark when he coached the Giants from 2001-2003 and often serves it to the players as part of their post-game spread.

It’s a recipe he got from his uncle, who got it from his uncles, and they “played with it a bit,” says Cram. “It’s got a sweet taste with a slight attitude. Not a big kick but an ‘oh, there it is.'”

Cram, a former major league pitcher who’s in his ninth season coaching in the Giants’ organization, first marketed the sauce by himself. Now it’s being done professionally and is being sold at Sierra Ski Lodge at South Lake Tahoe and in the restaurant of the Lake Elsinore Storm near his hometown of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. It’s also being sold at some mom-and-pop stores.

You’ll find autographed bottles of the sauce for sale at The Clubhouse store at Municipal Stadium.
