Head coach Mike Singletary hand-picked six captains for this upcoming season:
- C Eric Heitmann
- TE Vernon Davis
- DE Justin Smith
- LB Takeo Spikes
- LB Patrick Willis
- RB Michael Robinson
Vernon Davis? Surprised? I was a little surprised when I came across his Tweet last night @VernonDavis85
Thanks to coach singletary for making me the offensive captain for the year. Hard work pays off in the long run.
And his reaction today was just as encouraging to hear.
It says a lot, that I've matured and coach really thinks a lot of me and I have a chance to be a leader on this team.
But it seems that he has earned it from what head coach Mike Singletary said.
I’m really excited about Vernon. I think he exemplified a lot of those qualities that you have to have in order to be a leader. I know he told me last year that that’s something he wanted to strive to be, and I felt that this year, just simply by what many of his teammates have said, comments the coaches have made about the maturity level that Vernon has shown and the professionalism and the work ethic and all of those things, I’m very excited about him.
I guess all the drama that Singletary and Davis encountered last season helped both these two men to get on the same page. And for Davis, this is very encouraging to hear. His maturation has clearly elevated his attitude on and off the field. He has become a great team player and a very dedicated student to Singletary's teachings.

On a note, the 49ers used earplugs instead of speakers to simulate crowd noise during practice. Singletary said that the speakers were just annoying.

WRs Josh Morgan and Isaac Bruce will start on Sunday. Arnaz Battle and Micheal Spurlock will play slot.

WR Brandon Jones and LB Ahmad Brooks will not play on Sunday. For the Cardinals, WR Anquan Boldin (hamstring), WR Early Doucet (ribs), QB Brian St. Pierre (back) are questionable.
WR Steve Breaston (knee), WR Sean Morey (ribs), S Matt Ware (shoulder) are probable.

Looks like the Cardinals vaunted air attack is pretty banged up for the game. Gooood, goooooood!
I think this years captains should be: Alex Smith (he's our QB, he should be captain), Patrick Willis, Vernon Davis, Justin Smith, Frank Gore & Andy Lee. Those are our best players. Not sure if it has to be 3 O's and 3 D's though.
