Rookie tight end Nate Byham has agreed to a new four-year contract according to Matt Maiocco. Details of the contract have yet to be released.
Byham was selected 182nd overall during this year's draft and is expected to become the blocking tight end the team has been looking for since last season.
The tight end out of PIttsburgh replaces the shoes of last year's draft pick Bear Pascoe. Pascoe didn't fit the bill for the 49ers and was eventually cut. There is optimism within the organization that Byham could be that third tight end on the team's roster this year.
There is not guarantee for Byham to make the roster, but it looks like he will get plenty of opportunities on special teams to display his blocking abilities. Joe Jon Finley and Tony Curtis will battle Byham during training camp for that third spot on the tight end depth chart.
Byham joins running back Anthony Dixon, wide receiver Kyle Williams and cornerback Phillip Adams as the draft picks that have agreed to new contracts.
