Here is a quick update on the injury bug that has hit the 49ers since Saturday:
- LB Parys Haralson had a hip flexor injury since Saturday. He returned to the field today.
- G Chilo Rachal left practice yesterday with migraine headaches. He's being held out of today's morning practice.
- FB Moran Norris looked like he had a hamstring pull. He was not on the field today.
- DE Kentwan Balmer hurt his knee yesterday but was back in pads today.
- G David Baas and RB Michael Robinson both are out today and will be evaluated next week. Baas suffered a foot injury yesterday. Robinson injured his groin.
- LB Patrick Willis is still out with an ankle injury.
- CB Tarell Brown is still out with a toe injury.
- LB Jay Moore is still out with a cut finger.
- T Marvel Smith is still being watched closely with his back.
This is going to be tough on the 49ers. Injuries are a given thing during training camp practices, but can the 49ers recover from this? The most difficult thing for the defense, which has the most injuries, is that they have to find players to fill in position spot.
Obviously, that isn't a bad thing either. LB Jay Moore stepped in and made an immediate impact at his spot before injuring his finger. Veteran CB Dre Bly knows that that CB Tarell Brown's injury opens up the door for him to earn a starting spot. Opportunities will definitely open up.
But for players like D David Baas and DE Kentwan Balmer, the injuries will set them back in their goals of making a huge impact at camp. I was looking forward to see if Balmer could live up to his billing as a first round player.
With both Rachal and Baas out today, Matt Maiocco is reporting that the 49ers sent Cody Wallace and Tony Wragge to fill in with the first team.
The afternoon session will be focused on special teams work.
