Our Salt City Shakers just wrapped up a double header bout against Ft. Collins' FoCo Girls Gone Derby, followed by a league match between The Leave it to Cleavers and Bomber Babes. Though the winners in both bouts were clearly obvious, it was an incredible display of athletics and sportsmanship between these teams.

In the first bout, the Shakers were able to take a quick 27-4 lead with the incredible jamming by China White and NOS. After 15 minutes, Salt City had extended their lead 42-11. Over the next several jams, the gap was widened to 73-13, including a 14 point jam from Roll Her Kitty. Towards the end of the half, FoCo captured three consecutive lead-jammer turns, but NOS and the Shakers still proved too much to handle, and finished the half leading 88-39.

The second half proceeded the same way, with the Shakers extending their lead 136-46 after 15 minutes. Then FoCo managed to close the gap a bit and slow down Salt City's scoring streak. At the end of the bout, Salt City finished off their opponent 152-78. NOS personally scored 94 of those points, outscoring the entire Ft. Collins team herself.

For the second bout, Leave it to Cleavers were looking to extend their 2-1/2 year winning streak against the Bomber Babes. A lot of new skaters on both teams, but the Cleavers quickly showed why they have been the ones to beat for the past two seasons. After 4 jams, the scores were close at 11-9 with Cleavers holding a close lead, but NOS spent a jam in the penalty box which allowed Muffin Splitter to take the lead up to 24-9. China White was on fire, and quickly extended the lead to 36-13. By halftime, the Cleavers pushed their lead to 95-29 as they controlled 14 of the 20 lead jams awarded in the half.

The second half slowed down the score, and showed a change of strategy. NOS spent nearly the entire half as a blocker and showed that she doesn't just skate fast, she also hits hard. Aside from a few breaks in the penalty box, she was the lead defender for the Bombers and stayed out for every jam. In the end, China White led the Cleavers with 55 points to a 133-67 win.

Next bout is July 10, 6:00 p.m. The Shakers will take on Arizona Roller Derby, who are currently ranked 13th in the WFTDA standings. Followed by Leave it to Cleavers vs. Death Dealers, which will be a real clash of the titans to determine the top team in the league.

The Cleavers lost to the Bombers in the 2008 season, before beating them in the championships later that year.
