The Chelsea Yacht Club will sponsor the inaugural Hudson River Challenge Regatta on Saturday August 28, 2010, to benefit the National Stroke Association.

The race starts at the Chelsea, N.Y., club (Latitude N 41° 33.190 Longitude W 073° 58.221) and heads south to Newburgh Bay and back and is open to all monohull sailboats boats racing under PHRF or One Design rules, if four or more One Design boats register. There is a $30 entry fee for each boat, and crews are encouraged to raise sponsorship money for the National Stroke Association. The entry fee goes towards each boat’s sponsorship total.

Race activities begin on Friday, August 27 at 5:00 pm at the club with registration and a cookout that offers hotdogs and hamburgers. The skipper’s meeting is on Saturday, August 28 at 9:00 am with the first race beginning at 10:30.

Boats must have a PHRF handicap to participate, and those that do not will have one assigned to them before the race. Sailing instructions will be available at the club’s website after August 1 and available at the registration desk before the skipper’s meeting. Registration materials are also available at the club’s site or at White’s Hudson River Marina in Newburgh, N.Y. or at the club.

The club will award trophies to the top three boats in each fleet and to the top boats and crew members who raise the most money for the National Stroke Association.
