In comments to couriermail.com.au, Jessica Watson's spokesman, Andrew Fraser notes: "We expect her to pass 1000 nautical miles on Wednesday." Her position on Tuesday - along her first leg route past Fiji to the equator - was passing Norfolk Island. This puts her at about the 900 nm mark.
Position information has not been available for the young sailor until well after the fact. Mr. Fraser says that tracking information will be added to her website in the next few days.
While her shore team is in contact with her and has precise position information, they have been reluctant to share it. Their motivation is to prevent news media from seeking out Ella's Pink Lady for photography or video enroute. "She just doesn't want to be annoyed with choppers and planes," he said.
As noted in Ms. Watson's blog entry from ealier this week, Andrew Fraser "looks after the blog, sponsors and other news updates."
