Sac State falls to UNLV 38-3

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Channing Trotter ran for 102 yards and three touchdowns to lead UNLV to a 38-3 victory over visiting Sacramento State on Saturday night.

Omar Clayton threw for 213 yards and one TD and senior receiver Ryan Wolfe caught five passes for 67 yards for the UNLV Rebels (1-0), who scored 28 unanswered points in the second half.

Terrance Dailey ran for 101 yards on 19 carries for the Sacramento State Hornets (0-1), who were held to a total of 228 offensive yards.

The Rebels marched 69 yards on nine plays in 4:17 to score on Trotter’s first touchdown to open the first quarter. Chris Dinz kicked a 44-yard field goal to put the Hornets on the board right before in the second quarter ended. The Rebels led 10-3 at the half.

Trotter scored on two 1-yard TDs in the third quarter before the Rebels put the game completely away in the fourth period with a 55-yard strike from Clayton to Rodelin Anthony and a 4-yard scamper by Mike Clausen.

Throughout the game, the Rebels confused the Hornets with no-huddle offense, odd formations, five wide-out sets, and big game plays under windy conditions.

Sacramento State will remain on the road next weekend, traveling to San Luis Obispo, Calif., to take on Cal Poly. The game on Sept. 12 will kick off at 4:05 p.m.
