The Kings will be without the services of current starting center Jason Thompson for up to two weeks. Results of X-Rays taken Thursday showed two non-displaced transverse processes fractures in his lower back.
Thompson was hurt in Tuesday's game against Detroit. He became tangled with Pistons forward Chris Wilcox while pursuing an offensive rebound. Wilcox had a hold of Thompson's arm, causing Thompson to land hard on his back. He remained down for a couple minutes before being helped off. He returned to the game.
The injury comes on the heels of Jon Brockman's knee injury, which will sideline the rookie for up to four weeks. With the addition of Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey from Houston, the Kings have some depth to overcome the missing players.
Despite a return to the starting lineup for the past three games, Thompson has continued to struggle. After averaging 16.6 points per game in December, he has only reached 16 points in two games of 2010. He is shooting just 38.5% in the past six games.
With Spencer Hawes' status in limbo following Tuesday's benching, it is unclear who will join Landry on the Kings starting frontline.
