A week after adding Jim Gray as a part-time sideline reporter, the Kings have brought in another high-profile broadcaster.
Bill Walton, formerly of ESPN, will join the Sacramento broadcast team in a limited role. Kings owner Joe Maloof told Ailene Voisin of the Sacramento Bee that Walton will work 5-10 Kings games, including games in Los Angeles.
"We'll start out slow and see how Bill handles it," Maloof told Voisin. "If he feels he can travel and wants to do more, that would be fine. He can offer commentary, join Grant (Napear) and Jerry (Reynolds) on the telecast for a quarter, do some reporting. We thought this was a great opportunity to add a Hall of Famer to our crew and have some fun."
It is yet another curious addition after last season's sideline reporter Kayte Christensen did not receive a new contract. Gray and Walton seem to be big fish in a small pond, but it remains to be seen exactly what roles they will fulfill.
Walton is known for his ties to Los Angeles and the Lakers, with many Kings fans feeling he holds a strong bias in favor of the Southern California area. The former NBA center Walton has been out of broadcasting for the past few seasons while dealing with back issues.

This is a joke right? Its a june fools joke right?
Maybe Walton and Gray think we will make the playoffs.
bill will replace grant
Are we on Punk'd? This can't be true.
I think it's a good addition cuz he can give our big guys some tips and I think he know more about the kings then grant and Jerry this is the start of the future
Is this serious? 5-10 games is far to many. Hopefully he dies before pre-season. Also, the comment that he knows more about the Kings than Grant and Jerry by Beto, is pretty much the dumbest thing i have heard on a sports site. (and that is saying something) @#%$ Bill Walton. Go Kings!!
