Welcome to Extreme Rural Families. This is the place to learn what it is like to live off the grid, and away from the madness of city !

Lots of people move to the country because they have a need to live closer to nature. Some just want to trade of the drama of the city for the peace and quiet of the back roads. Another motive for becoming an Extreme Rural Family can have social and personal responsibilities attached.

Rural life gives the opportunity to live a sustainable life. Using what you have without wasting just makes sense. A simple definition of sustainable development would be that you meet your needs in the present and preserve the environment at the same time. Others in the future would have access to the same resources without cleaning  up your mess.

When you make the decision to be conservative, you are moving toward this ideal. The effects can reach not only into your neighbor’s back yard, but into generations yet to be born. It doesn’t even have to be difficult. Setting up something as simple as an extra hose from your kitchen sink to the herb garden for recycling gray water is a move towards sustainable living.

For most families in the country, being conservative and saving is just a way of life. That it can change the world and make it a better place shouldn’t come as a surprise, but the excess waste and spending of the last few decades make it seem like huge and new idea. Saving our environment for our descendants is the right thing to do and it may be the only way we can survive a difficult economy.

For a lot of people, the idea of relocating to a rural area has to be balanced with need versus want. The concept of giving back to the environment as the family reaps the benefits of the country life may be the deciding factor for a lot of folks. If it is, we can all look forward to a better life, and a more responsible future.
