This morning as clouds were parting and waves crashed on the sand, the ocean breeze carried a mysterious feeling that something was about to ensue. Witches, ghosts, pumpkins and other costumed runners assembled at the oceanfront for the first ever Wicked 10k run. At 8AM the sound of a bullhorn filled the air cutting loose a field of 5,000 excited runners.
Lining the streets were just as many spectators. Some dressed in costumes while others stood armed with signs and cameras ready to cheer on runners. With practically every costume imaginable the oceanfront celebrated Halloween in full regalia.

Not just a fun run, it’s an event
Big name sponsors such as Blue Moon, Beach Bully and Hunt Club Farm made this a sellout event. Registered participants received a technical shirt, finisher’s medal and post race party where they were treated to live music, catered barbeque, beer and a costume contest.
Three costume categories gave runners several different options to choose from: Best Individual, Pumpkin Pair (2 people) or Best Group (5+ people). A panel of judges stationed around the post race party judged costumes on originality, authenticity, overall theme and craftsmanship.

Fierce competition
Aside from the popular costume competition, the race hosted a strong field of runners. Ryan Carroll of Portsmouth, Virginia won the inaugural race in a blistering time of 32:09:00. In a time of 40:21, Jami Peterson of Williamsburg, Virginia won the overall female division.
