Catch Bart @ the LA Marathon in March. (PRNewsFoto/Honda, LA Marathon)
Bart's upcoming events
Few athletes truly get it. They often lose touch with their roots or allow a small dose of fame to turn into a life of entitlement (à la Tiger Woods). Bart Yasso, road racing icon, widely-acclaimed author, and chief running officer with Runner's World, is certainly not that type of athlete. A simple e-mail to him has turned into a recurring article that I hope you will enjoy - a small snippet into the life of one of America's great road racing athletes and mentor to many.
Here is the first of my Three Minutes with...Bart Yasso:
1.) You are all over this great country of ours, meeting (and running with) people from all over the globe. Where will you will be running, signing, or making other special appearances this month?
I'm on the road almost every weekend. At these upcoming events, I will be doing seminars and book signings, and I plan on running Gasparilla and Little Rock: Gasparilla Marathon (2/28), Little Rock Marathon (3/7), LA Marathon (3/21), and Monument Ave 10k, Richmond, VA (3/27)
2.) I know you are involved in a number of running events and programs. Any particular events for the month of March you would like to mention?
I'm very excited about running the Little Rock Marathon this year. I've been at the event the past 4 years doing seminars, speaking at the pasta dinner, and working on race day as the finish line announcer. This year, on race day, I'll skip the race announcing and run the marathon.
3.) After a long, cold winter (which is still going on in many parts of the country), the Spring racing season is upon us. Do you have any training tips to share with us as we prepare to put the cold behind us and begin to jot down races to put on our calendars?
The Runner's World office is in Emmaus, PA. Looking out of my office window, it looks like the North Pole! When we have one of these tough winters it's hard to get in some quality runs. When Spring rolls around, it's fun to do some tempo runs and speed workout on a local track. Ease in to these quality workouts, and start out only doing a few miles of tempo and speed. Add on the to the distances as you build up your endurance. I'm so ready for Spring!!!
Thank you, Bart. We'll see you in L.A. in just a few weeks!
Check back next month as Bart shares with us his plans for April and stay tuned for other Three Minutes with... articles in the future. Have a question you'd like to ask Bart? E-mail it to jamie@ierunner.com, and you may see your answer in a future column.
