Saturday September 11, 2010 will mark the anniversary of the terrorist attack on our nation 9 years ago. And to commemorate that solemn occasion runners from the Jersey Shore will again participate in the 9-11 Remembrance Run along the boardwalks of Belmar and Spring Lake, NJ. The day has special meaning to the Jersey Shore area as many local residents were lost on that day.
The run as it has done since its inception 8 years ago will start on the Belmar boardwalk on 16th Avenue at 6 PM.
“Run, Remember, Reflect and Resume” is the theme of the evening.
At the start instructions are provided to the runners and they are given flags or flowers to carry on the run. Runners are instructed to “Run” in complete silence along the route. At the start a portion of those lost on that tragic day from the Jersey Shore are read aloud by the runners to “Remember” those lost. They then proceed to the 9-11 Memorial about a half mile away in Spring Lake where crowds of spectators gather and await the runners. At that point some of the flags and flowers are placed around the memorial and another portion of names of victims are read again. From there the runners proceed to the end of the Spring Lake Boardwalk and while they “Run” they “Reflect” on the significance of that event on our nation and our lives. At the end of the boardwalk a memorial is set up and the remaining flags and flowers are placed around the memorial and the remaining names are read aloud on he beach.
After a final moment of silence the runners are instructed to “Resume” their lives and return back to the start.
There are no registration fees, no t-shirts, no awards – it is just the most memorable run of the year for many of the participants.
All are invited to participate – there is no registration required, no fees, no bibs – just show up and be ready to run at 6 PM.

Very memorable event. It not only commemorates all those who were lost that day - I hope we dont forget - its also a reminder of what running should be. no $50 entry fees, no fancy finish lines, no chips and no hype. Just run!
