Atlantic City, NJ, July 1, 2010 – The Atlantic City Marathon returns for its 52nd year on
Sunday, October 17 beginning at 8:00 a.m. But this time, the nation’s third oldest marathon
returns with a new route that not only has runners competing on the world famous Atlantic
City Boardwalk, but also traversing a course that highlights the ocean, back bay and
everything in between.
“We’ve eliminated the old course that had participants running back and forth on the same
route multiple times,” said Race Director Brian Barry. “With the new city-wide course,
runners will have the opportunity to not only pass through Historic Gardner’s Basin, but also
the Atlantic City Marina District before heading Down Beach.”
The new course, which is USA Track & Field Certified, will still begin at Historic Boardwalk
Hall, with participants running the Atlantic City Boardwalk before heading to Gardner’s
Basin. But now, participants will pass Harrah’s Resort and Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa on
the Bay side before returning to the Boardwalk via North Carolina Avenue. The last leg has
race participants heading to Ventnor, Margate and Longport before returning to Atlantic
City.
“We’re really excited about the new course,” said Barry. “After receiving feedback from
participants, the new city-wide course was first on the list of what runners wanted for this
year’s marathon. We looked at several different scenarios and this was definitely the best
route.”
It’s one of the many things the KatzJCC initiated after stepping in to revive and reinvigorate
the 2009 AC Marathon. An AC Marathon Committee was created and includes local
businesspeople, tourism officials, sponsor representatives and residents of the area. The
Committee has met year-round to ensure that this year’s Atlantic City Marathon exceeds
participants’ expectations. The new course was created, along with the planning of additional
water stations and clear directional signage, an increase in prize money and more.
As it has done in the past, the Atlantic City Marathon serves as an official qualifying race for
the 2011 Boston Marathon, a distinction that draws runners from all over the world to
Atlantic City each year for the weekend long event.
Race day events and activities include a full marathon (26.2 miles); a half marathon (13.1
miles); a 10K run (6.2 miles); a 5K run (3.1 miles); a two-mile, non-competitive Health
Walk; and a free Kids Fun Run.
Presented by the Katz Jewish Community Center and the Boardwalk Runners, the 52nd
Annual Atlantic City Marathon is sponsored by Mini Cooper, Tropicana Casino & Resort,
Harrah’s Entertainment, Trump Entertainment, Spirit Airlines, Resorts Atlantic City, and the
Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority.

Glad to hear they updated the course. I rememember one foggy marathon day morning years ago when it seemed we were covering the same ground repeatedly - a different course may have helped me!
the new organizers seem dedicted to make the ac marathon what it deserves to be - one of the premier marathons. good luck and i will be doing the race again this year.
