Runners to your marks! Get an official Boston Marathon qualifying time on Sunday November 15, 2009 at the San Antonio Rock 'n' Roll Marathon! This course is designed to show runners the rich history of the mission-style Texas city--including the Alamo-- while providing a fun and scenic 26.2 mile route. The second annual running of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon will house over 31,000 runners from all 50 states--including Massachusetts-- and 23 countries.
The San Antonio Rock 'n' Roll Marathon boasts a flat, fast and spectator-friendly course. With historic scenery, live music at every mile and a low elevation, it helps numbs the pain of running the 26.2! A cool 60 degree day should greet runners this Sunday and a Health & Fitness Expo will follow the race with vendors, samples and information. It is a certified Boston Marathon qualifier.
There will be some elite men and women running this year's race (double from last year), but watch out for the "Texas Showdown" competition! The fastest runners in Texas will battle it out for the top spot in the state and a prize purse of $11,500--sorry, Texas only. The returning "Texas Showdown" winner of last year's half-marathon course, Melisa Christian of Dallas, will attempt to defend her title in the 13.1. Both the marathon and half-marathon races begin promptly at 7:30am. Check back here for results!
