Tired of the same old road races? Want to tackle a new challenge? Want to see what it’s like to run through the woods with a few friends? If you answered yes to any of these questions then the 2010 Mountain Junkies R Nuts Roanoke Non-Ultra Trail Series may be what you are looking for.

Now in it’s second year the 2010 series will feature six races at five wonderful venues throughout the Roanoke Valley.

The first race in the series, the Frozen Toe 10K, took place on January 9, 2010. Not only was this the kickoff race for the 2010 series, it was the first race run on the popular Chestnut Loop Trail. Ninety runners braved the snow and cold (and even some bumps and bruises) to get the series started. The race was won by Adam Childers with a time of 41:27.

March will bring two races to the area. The sixth running of the Explore Your Limits 5K/10K at Explore Park will be held on the 6th of the month, while the Montvale 5 and 10 Miler will take place on the 27th at Montvale Park in Bedford County.

Join other adventure seekers at the second running of the Mill Mountain Mayhem 10K on April 17th. See Mill Mountain as you never have before in this challenging yet fun trail race.

Bedford’s Falling Creek Park is the site for the fifth (and longest) race in the series on June 5th. The Trail Nut 10K and 13.1 Mile will take you on an amazing tour of this hidden gem in beautiful Bedford, Virginia.

The sixth and final race in the series brings runners back to Virginia’s Explore Park for the fourth running of the Into The Darkness 4 Mile Trail Run. Bring your own light source (headlamp, flashlight, etc) for this unique event. As the only trail race run after dark in the area, it is sure to provide an adventure you will soon not forget.

While still young, this unique and adventurous series of races are sure to only grow in popularity in coming years. Be sure to visit the Mountain Junkies website for all your race series information, including race descriptions, registration information, and race series rules.
