2009 BARC Pub Crawl runners in Woodstock mode
It's time to get ready for this popular annual event. As the name suggests, it's not exactly a race. It's more of a series of trots from one watering hole to another down Houston's NASA Rd. 1. This year marks a decade in sociable running history, 10 years of fun.
This just might be the best way for running in the heat now that the Houston area is being thermally punished.
The theme last year was Woodstock as evidenced by the photo on the right. It hasn't been “officially” announced yet, but I have it on good word that this year the theme will be superhero. Since this is an adult event, it's safe to say the participants will get creative with that one.
The run starts at Carlos Beer Garden, 18018 Hwy 3, Webster, Texas, usually at around 11:00 AM. The confirmed time will be posted on the running event calendar when it's announced. The distance is about a 10K; it's determined by the stops and the final destination.
It's advisable to carry cash in a baggie or a debit or credit card to purchase your beverages of choice along the way. It all works out because there's no registration and no fee, just an afternoon of running fun. As Zippy said, “Frivolity is a stern taskmaster.”
