October 28, 2009 - New York City - Edward Norton continued his media blitz last night, appearing on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' to discuss the upcoming ING New York City Marathon. His pre-marathon media appearances have apparently paid off, as the actor has currently raised over $140,000 for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. Norton will run the NYC Marathon this Sunday, November 1, 2009.
As he has mentioned in previous media appearances, Norton jokes that he didn't realize that a marathon was 26.2 miles until after he had committed to running. Jimmy Fallon replies that if he had to run a marathon, he would be "passed out" by 2.4 miles. Norton also talks at length about the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, the environmental organization he is raising money for with his marathon run.
Edward Norton also talks about showing the Maasai warriors, who are staying at his apartment, around New York City. Norton's Maasai friends have finally come around to wearing running shoes instead of their homemade, tire-based sandals, and Fallon has a picture of the group getting their Puma running shoes. According to Norton, one of the Maasai runners ran a 10-mile tempo run at 5:50 pace last weekend in Central Park. Fallon responds by asking, "How are you going to keep up with these guys?" See the full video of Norton's appearance on 'Late Night' below.
In addition to Puma, Garmin is also sponsoring Edward Norton and his team for the NYC Marathon. On the Garmin page, you can track Norton's latest training runs as he tapers for Sunday's marathon. As of October 29, 2009, Norton has raised $140,942 for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. Alanis Morissette and David Blaine are also running on Norton's team.
