Most people who sign up for their first marathon usually have one common hope--that months of training and a whole lot of adrenaline will carry their bodies a full 26.2 miles, and across the finish line. Gebre Gebremarian ran his first-ever marathon on Sunday, November 7, but had bigger goals in mind. He won first place. He finished the New York City Marathon in 2 hours 8 minutes 14 seconds. I'm not positive, but I think simply witnessing this event is enough to induce second-hand endorphins--even if you experienced his win via a television screen, in the comfort of your own home.
Why not experience your own runner's high? The fifth annual Andy Geil 5k Race is Saturday, November 13 at 9:00 a.m.
The race begins at St. William church, and the route runs along the nearby side streets of Price Hill.
Proceeds benefit the St. William/Andy Geil Scholarship Fund. Click here to learn more about the race and Andy's story.
A post-race reception immediately follows the run.
A 3.1-mile race may not carry the same weight as Pheidippides' 26.2-mile excursion from the town of Marathon to Athens, Greece, but running for a good cause certainly doesn't sound like a shabby start to a Saturday.
