Chuy's Hot to Trot 5K took place on May 8th, 2010. 917 runners came out to support Special Olympics Texas, and for orange juice, Krispy Kreme donuts, and cool fish plaques. Up front, leading the men's and women's divisions, we had Ken Goglas, 15:57, and Liz Shelton, 17:25. Shelton won races for three consecutive weekends. Results

Suzanne Revell, who turned 32 on Sunday, won the wheelchair division with a time of 21:52. Due to a gymnastics injury at the age of 14, Revell has been in a wheelchair for 17 years. A year and a half ago she decided to take control of her life and weight, so she hired a trainer. Soon after she met her role model, Kristen Messer, who inspired her to get into racing. This year she plans on completing her first marathon, Rock and Roll marathon in San Antonio in November. When I asked her what her thoughts on winning were, she said, "Sometimes just finishing is a win."

The 33rd Anual Daisy 5K this past weekend was a 3.1-mile celebration of mothers, grandmothers, and those important mother figures. This race was like no other in that there were special accommodations for moms. Some of the perks moms enjoyed at the race were free child care during the race, a stroller division, and a separate women's only start. Unlike other races, women and strollers set out 3 minutes ahead of the men. 171 people came out to support Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas. The course started at the Round Rock Outlets and looped around nearby neighborhoods to finish back where is started. Ashish Patel, the overall male winner (17:02), Cindy Connolly, the overall female winner (19:02), and  I, the stroller division winner (24:52), all walked away with a medal and $25 gift certificate. This race concluded the SPRINT series. Liz Shelton, who had been in 1st place in the series, did not compete on Sunday, therefore, Cindy Connolly won the series with Kelly Simmons a very close second. On the men's side, Ashish Patel, who won 1st in the Texas-Round-up 10K and the Daisy 5K, swept the Sprint Series title. Series Results

A post-series celebration will take place on May 27th 2010, where finisher packets and awards will be handed to those who completed all four races. Check in with the website (http://sprint.austinrunners.org/) for updates on location and time. If you are one of the SPRINT series finishers, make sure you attend, you all will receive a finisher award. However, even if you didn't race all four or ANY of the races, you are still invited to go celebrate with your friends and family. Perhaps you will meet someone at this party who will inspire you!
