The Gen Con EN World RPG Awards (the "ENnies") are an annual fan-based celebration of excellence in tabletop roleplaying gaming. The final winners are voted upon online by the gaming public.
The ENnies were created in 2001 as an annual award ceremony, hosted by the leading D&D/d20 system fan site, EN World in partnership with Eric Noah's Unofficial D&D 3rd Edition News. Since they were originally conceived, the ENnies have expanded from an Internet-based awards selection to an annual award ceremony at Gen Con Indy. The ENnies have also branched out from their roots as an award ceremony focused upon d20 system publishers and products to celebrate the achievements of all tabletop RPGs and the publishers and products that support them.
ENnie categories covering artwork include Best Cartography, Interior Art, Cover Art, Production Values. ENnie categories recognizing writing include Best Writing, Rules, and Setting. ENnie categories recognizing overall role-playing game products include Best Supplement, Adventure, Adversary/Monster Product, and Aid or Accessory. In the electronic category, the ENnies recognize Best Software, Podcast, Free Product or Web Enhancement, Electronic Book, and Best Fan Site. For all the other game types, categories cover Best Miniature Product and Best Regalia. Finally, there are a few overall categories: Best Game, Product of the Year (ten are nominated) and Best Publisher. Best Publisher is a Fans' Choice Award and the only category in which a publisher who did not submit any product for consideration to the ENnies can qualify (if they receive the nomination).
Voters vote over the web in the weeks leading up to Gen Con, with the winners announced in a ceremony at the Westin Hotel Grand Ballroom at Gen Con Indy. For most categories, voters have five ballots (20 for Fan Award for Best Publisher and 10 for Product of the Year). If a voter wish to vote at all in a category, he selects his choice on any of the ballots. If he has multiple favorites in a category, the votes can be ordered from 1 to 5 (1 is highest, 5 is lowest). Duplicate ballots are discarded. To vote, visit http://www.ennie-awards.com/voting/ballot.asp
With award categories recognizing the components that make a game great to the types of products fans have come to love, categories for fan-based websites and much more, the ENnies are the best way for fans to acknowledge outstanding effort from and to say "thank you" to the publishers, designers and artists who make this hobby great.
