In one of the most anticipated royal events in history, Stockholm is gearing up for the royal wedding of HRH Crown Princess Victoria and Mr. Daniel Westling. The wedding is on tap for June of 2010 and Stockholm is unveiling plans now for the grand occasion. The city is planning a two week festival to lead up to the main event, the kick off is on National Day and the week following will be themed “Love Stockholm 2010”. Swedish politicians are eager to make sure that Stockholm does not miss their moment to capitalize on the world stage they will be given, but also keep the spot light where it belongs – on the wedding of Victoria. The mayor noted that “We do not see this primarily as an economic event. We are happy to celebrate our crown princess who makes a tremendous contribution to our country.” Over two million people are expected to join in the celebrations surrounding the royal wedding, 2,000 journalists (700-800 foreign) are likely to be on hand. Sales of souvenirs related to the wedding are likely to bring in 2.5 billion SEK in revenues. Hotel rooms are expected to be filled as quickly as they become available.
