Joe Biden on economy: "oops"

OK, he said a little more than that, but that is a pretty good summation. In an interview over the weekend, George Stephanopoulos gave Biden an out by leading him with "…either you guys (Democrats) misread the economy, or the stimulus package isn't working". Not wanting to admit the stimulus package was digging America further into a dark abyss of financial debt, Biden chose the former option. He further elaborated that "everyone" misread the economy.

To borrow a famous quote, "Say it ain't so Joe". There have been a few naysayer voices out there, mainly from the Ron Paul camp. However, since Dr. Paul and crew were effectively silenced during the primary debates, many Americans may have missed his prophetically accurate assessment of the economy. A short perusal through the youtube.com collection of Ron Paul videos will reveal just how accurate he is. Now, Dr. Paul is far too much of a gentleman to say, "I told you so". On the other hand, his supporters love nothing more.

The video above is from the Von Mises institute explaining how government intervention is not a solution to economic downturns. The problem is that too many of us have come to see the government as our "protector" or guardian. This works well for politicians who get to enjoy both fame and prosperity once elected into public service. However, as more and more citizens are waking up to the fact that the government is often more meddlesome than helpful, people are beginning to question politicians' motives and sincerity. At a few recent tea party events, conservative politicians mistakenly thought they were among friends but soon realized that the crowd was not interested in "canned" speeches from bureaucrats who say one thing but vote another.

Perhaps as more and more voters wake up from their apathetic slumber, America can make her way back to a more constitutional form of government after all.
