Red + White Wine Bar in San Francisco's Glen Park district hosted a Release Party yesterday for local winemaker, Waits-Mast Family Cellars. This quiet neighborhood seems an unlikely locale for both a wine bar and a winemaker, but tell that to the neighbors who flocked to the event.
The Release Party was for their 2008 Amber Ridge (Russian River) Pinot Noir. Locals, fans, and wine lovers were there to sample this exceptional wine with flavors of cherries, rasberries and a hint of spice. It received a Silver Medal at the 2010 San Francisco International Wine Competition. See here for more information about the wine. To purchase this wine visit Red + White Wine Bar. Canyon Market stocks some of Waits-Mast other wines.
Red + White Wine Bar is both a gathering place for locals and wine lovers alike. Many people stop in for a glass of wine before dinner at one of the local restaurants or on their way home from work. They have a well edited selection of 13 wines by the glass and even more by the bottle. Their philosophy is to offer small production California wines at affordable prices and to change their "by the glass" selections often, to give you a reason to come back. Should you decide to take a bottle to go, their pricing won't leave you destitute. While it seems like they have always been here, the wine bar opened in January of 2010.
Sit down on one of their plush red leather sofa's with a few friends and a glass of wine. Or enjoy sitting at the artistic marble and pebbled counter, talking with the staff. Should you need a snack, they have a tasty menu. My favorite items are the gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches that pair perfectly with their wines. They also offer gougeres, charcuterie plates and cheese samplers to tide you over until dinner.
Red + White is open Tuesday through Sunday from 3 pm until 10 pm and on Fridays and Saturdays until 11 pm. They are located at 678 Chenery Street near Diamond and a convenient two minute walk from the Glen Park BART Station.
