Rent paddle boats at Golden Gate Park's Stow Lake for a romantic picnic in San Francisco.
For a romantic date and creative picnic visit Golden Gate Park’s Stow Lake. Rent a paddle boat and enjoy a picnic on the lake. For a mere $24.00 you have the boat for an hour; long enough for a romantic picnic and enough time to get around the entire lake.
While perfectly safe and serene during the day, many claim a ghost haunts the lake during evening hours. Legend tells of a woman living in the early 1900s whose young son fell into the lake. She died trying to save him and is still searching for him. I have been to the lake many times during the daylight hours and have never encountered the ghost.
Golden Gate Park was built in the late 1860’s as the West’s version of Central Park. It is now the third most visited Park in the US. When it was originally built it was supposed to fuel the growth of San Francisco’s Western expansion. Once the cable cars began transporting passengers to the Park and the “Land’s End” area of the City, its success was certain. During weekends 47,000 passengers made their way to the Park via public transportation.
Stow Lake was built around Strawberry Hill, now an island, which is a nice place to walk or hike. Bridges connect the hill to walking trails at the Lake. The views are gorgeous with stone bridges, waterfalls and a Chinese peace pagoda. The paddle boat allows for an easy way to see it all. Bring some stale bread to feed the birds on the lake: ducks, seagulls and geese call the lake their home. Forget all of your cares and enjoy the beautiful sights of being on the water.
