Welcome, Romance Lovers!
Vacation is over and I'm back with author Jennifer Haymore who has just had her first historical Romance book released by Grand Central Publishing!
Welcome, Jennifer! I'm thrilled to have you here this morning! You have a new book out. We’d love to hear about it.
Thanks, Fran! I'm happy to be here! My first historical romance, A Hint of Wicked, will be hitting the shelves TODAY. It’s a story about a woman who’s spent seven years mourning her husband lost at Waterloo, to finally marry again only to have her first husband return less than a year into her new marriage. She’s legally bound to her first husband, her second husband is appealing to the courts, and she’s completely torn between the two men.
Sounds like she's in for a merry ride! Do you have a blurb or excerpt for us today?
I sure do, Fran:
CAUGHT BETWEEN DUTY AND DESIRE . . .
Sophie, the Duchess of Calton, has finally moved on. After seven years mourning the loss of her husband, Garrett, at Waterloo, she has married his cousin and heir, Tristan. Sophie gives herself to him body and soul. . . until the day Garrett returns from the Continent, demanding his title, his lands-and his wife.
TORN BETWEEN TWO HUSBANDS . . .
Now Sophie must choose between her first love and her new love, knowing that no matter what, her choice will destroy one of the men she adores. Will it be Garrett, her childhood sweetheart, whose loss nearly destroyed her once already? Or will it be Tristan, beloved friend turned lover, who supported her through the last, dark years and introduced her to a passion she had never known? As her two husbands battle for her heart, Sophie finds herself immersed in a dangerous game-where the stakes are not only love . . . but life and death.
Sounds like a fabulous read! Where can I find this book today?
You can buy this book at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, eReader.com, Booksamillion.com, Powell's Books, and other fine stores!
What do you love about your editor (or publisher)?
I really love working with the Forever line at Grand Central Publishing. Everything about working with my publisher has been completely positive. Most of all, though, I’m so thrilled to be working with my editor, Selina McLemore. She is…well, she’s like an evil genius! (Shhh, don’t tell her!) Seriously, she works me hard, but she has taught me so much, and she really helps me to mold my books into the best works they can be.
What does your writing schedule look like? Are you a morning writer? A night owl?
I’m definitely a night owl. Here’s my typical writing day: I wake up, get the kids ready and take them to school. When I get home, I grab some coffee and go through emails. By then it’s usually around 10-10:30. I work like mad until I have to pick up my daughter from school at 12:45 (all the while trying not to be distracted by continuing emails, message boards, research, etc.!). But my really productive time is at night after the kids have gone to bed. Usually I leave the house, find an isolated corner in a bookstore café, turn on my iPod and get lost in the story. I’ll write until 10 or 11 (or until they kick me out of the café!) and then come home, fall into bed, and start over the next day!
Do you have a writer’s cave?
I have a few writer’s caves and they’re scattered around town--mostly at coffee shops with internet access! My favorite one is Seattle’s Best Coffee at Borders. For some reason I seem to get my most quality writing done there. I drink gallons of coffee and just buckle down and write.
Do you have a day job? How do you balance the two?
I work as a part-time content editor at a small press--Samhain Publishing. I also have three young children. I wish I had the magic answer to the balancing question, but just about every day is a challenge. I’m constantly either working or on the go. One thing I do try to do is get enough sleep, because if I don’t, I’m useless the following day!
What is your next project?
A Touch of Scandal is the sequel to A Hint of Wicked, and features the hero who lost Sophie in the first book.
Do you have any writing rituals? Like special music, times of the day, food quirks, etc?
I like to write with a cup of coffee nearby. Given the number of hours I spend writing, that’s a fairly frightening amount of coffee!
Well, as busy as you are, I am happy that you found time to visit with me! Thanks! Oh, by the way...you mentioned a contest?
CONTEST! CONTEST!
I will be watching all the comments posted on this interview, and after 48 hours, I will draw one name from the hat and give away one copy of this book to one poster and will reward other posters with other author goodies. Please leave your real name and your e-mail address on your comment if possible. If your name is drawn as weinner, and there is no contact information, I will announce the winner on this interview comment board, so come back and check! Have fun!

Two husbands sounds more wicked than just a hint!
I wish I had a coffee shop close by to write at. I think the people watching and change of atmosphere might be good for the muse. It seems to work for you!

Oooo! This one sounds great. I wish it was a ebook. I hate waiting 10 days for a book! Going to Borders. No waiting.
Hi everyone! Diane, actually A HINT OF WICKED is available in ebook, and my publisher is having a great sale this month (it's only $1.99!). Check out Kindle, Sony, Fictionwise, etc.
Des, yes, cafes are great for me to get work done. Sometimes I admit to getting sidetracked by people watching, but for the most part, I'm really efficient.
Thanks, Wendy, Paris, and Amber!
I can't wait to read it! I would never get any writing done in a book store. All those books would be calling my name. I envy your ability to focus in a public place.
