Help me welcome Erotic Romance author Julia Barrett!

           Coming March 16, 2010

Today's very special guest is multi-published, red  hot author Julia Barrett, whose new book from Resplendence will release March 16th! Welcome, Julia! When did you first start writing Romance?

I began writing Romance three years ago. I know some people have written in the genre for years and they have way more experience than I do. I wasn’t even a Romance reader until fairly recently.

The thing about Romance is the story. I’ve imagined heroic stories in my head all my life and I realized Romance was the perfect venue to get them out, put them on paper, so to speak.

Do you remember the first Romance novel you read? Do you have a favorite that remains your guiding star?

Yes. Linda Howard’s Kill and Tell.   I then went on to read everything she’d written up to that point. Kill and Tell has one of the most memorable seduction scenes in the genre and her book, After the Night, reminds me so much of my own life and love – Those two books are still my very favorite romance novels of all time.

How do you find ideas for your books? Real happenings? Dreams? A great imagination?

All three. I draw my stories from real life to a great extent. Many characters and conversations you read in my works have actually occurred. But…I also dream stories from start to finish and then, of course, I use my imagination – which is awfully vivid – LOL!

Describe the heroines you love to write.

My heroines are survivors. They are mouthy, funny, smart and very self-aware. I’m not a big fan of the TSTL heroine. She’s just a vehicle for a hot guy. I like to write female characters who can hold their own against the hero. The way I look at my heroines is – if their man was to leave them, would they survive on their own? The answer is always, yes.

Your heroines are ectoplasmic copies of their author! LOL! Tell us a little about your favorite “hero” type guy.

My hero is also smart and he’s always a self-made man. I don’t think I’ve written a single hero who’s come from money. He may have it now, but if so, he’s earned it the hard way. He’s also a guy who might play around before he meets the right woman, but what he really wants is love and he’s looking for a woman who won’t take any crap from him, not a damsel in distress who needs to be saved. The story may demand that he save her, but then, in my books, the heroine might just as easily save him.

Tell me a little about your new book.

Beauty and the Feast is the story of a personal chef, Eva Raines and her client, Gabriel Abbott. The two are attracted to each other sight unseen. They meet over the phone, feel a tug in a certain direction, but neither acts on their feelings. Then Gabe tastes the food Eva’s prepared and he wants to meet her as badly as she wants to meet him, but both are afraid because neither knows a thing about the other. Of course, as in any good Romance, Eva and Gabe are thrown together in an unexpected way – he recognizes her voice just as she recognizes his. After that, all bets are off!

Congratulations on your success as an author. How many books do you have in print (or e-pub) now? Do you have a favorite?

I currently have two books out this year, Captured, a work of science fiction romance, with Siren, and My Everything, a romantic suspense story, with Cobblestone Press.

Wow! What grogeous covers! Sorry for interrupting...please go on.

I also have a novella in The Cougar Book, with Logical Lust, You Might Just Get It.

Beauty and the Feast, a contemporary with Resplendence, makes four releases so far. I have another four book science fiction series coming out with Resplendence in July and August, Daughters of Persephone.

I don’t play favorites! I love them all! The Cougar Book is out in print, the other books are ebooks for now.

Do you have another project in the works?

Yes. I’m working on a science fiction ménage, my first foray into that genre, and I have a paranormal ménage planned. After that, I’ve got a couple of sequels to focus on – a sequel to Captured and another for Beauty and the Feast involving Gabriel’s half brother.

Great...now we want to know all the 'non-author' secrets...
Quick Quiz:

Coffee or tea? Coffee!

Divinity or fudge? Neither. Smooth milk chocolate.

Arnold or Sly? Neither. Daniel Craig and Clive Owen

Dogs or cats? Both.

Spring or Autumn? Both.

TV or Reading? Reading unless it’s Battlestar Galactica!

Diet or original? I never drink anything diet. If I have a soda, it’s Coke.

Twilight or Potter? Neither. I like True Blood. Eric is yummy! He’s better in the books!

Sunny or rainy? Both.

Romance or mystery? Depends upon my mood. I’m not big on thrillers.
