This Sunday will be the 40th anniversary of New York’s gay pride parade. The event is the LGBT community’s tribute to New York City for embracing diversity. The theme of this year’s march is “Liberty and Justice for all” to spotlight the importance of spreading awareness and tolerance.
Heritage of Pride organizes Pride Week, which features various rallies, plays and concerts in honor of the gay community. The pride parade starts Sunday June 27 at noon at 36th street and Fifth Avenue, and ends at Christopher and Greenwich streets. This year’s march is 16 blocks shorter than before to comply with new city rules for parades.
Later tonight, Something Good – A Cabaret Benefiting Marriage Equality USA will be performed by 2010 MAC Award Nominee Jaron Vesely at the Metropolitan Room on 34th Street. Tickets are $15 with a two drink minimum and may be purchased online.
Tomorrow Out Of The Box: LGBTQ Web Series Festival, which is a first annual event, will be held at 7 pm at New World Stages (340 W. 50th St., between 8th and 9th Avenue. The event features drinks, food, and lively panel discussions by series' creators, described as “an eclectic evening of entertainment.”
