Uggs: the world's ugliest cat Daily Mail Online: UK
If you have been anywhere on the Internet lately, you probably have been hearing or reading about the “ugliest cat in the world”. What a label! Being the cat freak that I am, I had to find out more about this cat.
The pundits are right; it certainly is an unattractive cat. Ouch, it hurts for this cat-lover to even admit there is such a thing as an ugly cat!
I concede. He is ugly, the poor baby.
I went to WBZ TV’s website in Boston to find out more. The cat is owned by a veterinarian from my home state of New Hampshire. Ugly Bat Boy or Uggs, as he is affectionately called, is actually a very sweet, adorable cat if you can get past the strange appearance this guy has. He resides in a veterinarian's office with several other felines.
While I watched the videos from WBZ and listened to the people that know Uggs, I discovered that they really love this guy, uglies and all. They are truly looking beneath the surface to see the sweetness and love he gives back to them.
It made me think about others in the creation…like us in the human race. My mind raced to create this analogy. Just as Dr. Bassett (gotta love that name for a vet!) adores his cat, God looks at us with even more love.
It reminded me of a verse from Psalm 42:11: “The king is enthralled by your beauty;
honor him, for he is your lord.” (the psalmist is talking about us!)
Our Lord loves us, in spite of what we look like, how much or how little money we may have, what we have done or are yet to do. We can do some pretty ugly things sometimes.
God created us to have a relationship with Him. Many times we think we either are not worthy of such a relationship, or we don’t want to be bothered. Many people even deny His existence. That has to hurt.
Uggs has tried to run away from Dr. Bassett’s office a couple of times—how many times do we run from the Lord? I can attest that I have done that a few times; I never have stayed away very long. It is much nicer to be close to the Lord. It’s not all that uncommon for us to try to run. Unfortunately, sometimes we are hard-headed and don't run back to Him as quickly as Uggs did to his home.
What is uncommon is that unlike us, God looks at our hearts, and not at our outward appearance. He isn’t surprised by our accomplishments. After all, He is the one who gave the gifts we have. He isn’t surprised when we mess up either. He just happens to be totally in love with us.
I happen to think that when Dr. Bassett looks at Uggs, he sees love also.
On those days when you are not feeling the greatest about yourself, your life situation or something that you did, remember that God is looking at you, just as Dr.Bassett does with Uggs, and sees love.

Great column, Pamela!

That cat's a Peterbald. His hair looks like that because of the way that the genes for his fur dispersed on his body. I have the same breed who has similar hairlines, only his mane is shorter, and he has a bit more fuzz. :) do research on the breed and you'll find tons of info about him. Anyone who owns a Peterbald knows that your "Ugly Bat Boy" who is gorgeous in my book, is indeed a Peterbald. :) (though he may not be full blooded, which is why the hair line turned out SO unique -being mostly naked, with the hairy parts being LONG hair lol)
Andrea, Thank you so much for the information about the Peterbald cat. I learned a lot from you. You have inspired me to research the breed more. And you prove my point--the owners love them like God loves us, even if we aren't "pretty" in the eyes of the world.
God bless!
for crying out loud.... i was enjoying the article immensly all the way to "It made me think about others in the creation…like us in the human race.." And then you whipped out your imaginary friend and started embarrassing us all.
Look, ANY being powerful enough to create the universe and all the stuff in it, and simultaneously listen to the thoughts and over-see the behaviors of all the stuff inside said universe, is so beyond any considerations of attractiveness and/or acceptance, that there are no words to truly describe how dumb it is, to make an analogy between overcoming your squeamish reaction to a cat's appearance, and what you think your imaginary Sky-lord thinks of you.
If you absolutely have to write a fluff piece about some trivial non-news, fine, (like i said, I was enjoying for first bit) at least keep it light, intelligent, and fun, and don't use every facet of life you stumble across to bring up your sadistic, misogynistic hateful myths.
