Sister Bridget: walking the talk

Many Christians like to talk the talk but forget that we are called to walk the walk. If you are in doubt of that, read the book of James. The news tonight reported on one Christian who not only talks the talk but walks it as well.Sister Bridget Haase was featured on NBC news tonight as one who makes a difference for others.

Sister Bridget is the Director of the Wellness and Spirituality Program at The Boston Home, a residence for adults who have advanced muscular dystrophy and other progressive neurological diseases. The Wellness and Spirituality program is designed to “nurture the needs of the mind, body and spirit.”

Sister Bridget states that “we all have the same hunger for understanding our place in life and my goal is to help the residents in their spiritual journey.”(The Boston Home)

NBC's coverage of her showed her gift of encouragement as well the love of Christ demonstrated to the people with whom she works.

She listed the three desires which we all, as human beings, hunger for:

  1. To know we are loved
  2. To make a difference
  3. To have meaning to our lives

Sr. Bridget, a breast cancer survivor, offers a variety of activities to minister to the adults she works with. Some of these include days of prayer, off-site spirituality trips, as well as relaxation techniques. One time, she made special arrangements to have the Boston Red Sox World Series Trophy brought to the home for the residents to enjoy. It should be noted that the trophy never leaves the clubhouse, so this was definitely a miracle for it to come to The Boston Home.

Other activities that Sr. Bridget offers is a spirituality themed series called “Life’s Questions” . She also leads memorial services.

She recently wrote a book titled Generous Faith: Stories to Inspire Abundant Living. The writer of the introduction wrote,”Sister Bridget has given us a valuable resource for finding the presence of God in the midst of our everyday life.”

In tonight’s NBC interview, Sister Bridget said, “Even if the body fails, the spirit is everlasting.”

That statement is one of hope, not only for the residents of The Boston Home but for all of us. We know that ultimately our bodies will fail, but our spirits live on. As Christians, we have the blessed hope of being with Our Lord eternally.
Thank you, Sister Bridget, for the gift of hope you bring to the residents of The Boston House as well as to all of those your life has touched.

Sr. Bridget is obviously a woman after the heart of Mother Teresa :) This is the kind of Christianity we need to see and hear about today when the world continually bestows her unbridled passions and politically correct RELATIVISM at us. Thank you so much for placing this before our hearts! God Bless you Pam.

Thank you for sharing this story. I had not known about it before reading it here. This is the type of news worthy story we could stand a lot more of as a society. My faith is renewed with each Sister Bridget showing us the how and the why.
