This weekend will mark the fourth Sunday of Lent and the week I took a trip with Jesus to St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette, Louisiana.
It was a six hour round-trip for one hour in a church with people of different races, from different cities sharing one faith, experiencing the exposition of the Holy Eucharist and traveling the same spiritual journey.
You see, this Lenten season I chose not to just fast from eating meat as is the norm, but to fast from complacency and fear—the fear of saying ‘Yes’ to God’s purpose and everything He intends for my life.
The act of listening I have learned; is a powerful necessity when seeking to follow the path God puts before us. My trip with Jesus to Lafayette last night was not so much about witnessing a spirit filled and powerful Evangelist Richard Lane, though his gift of speech was awe inspiring, but more about hearing what God used him to speak to me.
My spiritual journey continues to be one of discovering what God calls me to and identifying those things in life which prevent me from doing just that.
Evangelist Lane did not know I would be in attendance and opened with Isaiah 11:2-3. Read it. It was as if God directed him to speak these verses specifically to me. As Mr. Lane explained, “Wisdom is a gift from God,” and we should seek to understand the graces which come only from God. The spirit of knowledge, counsel and strength are all God's gifts. Most of all, I got that God’s desire is not for me to fear where He sends me or what he calls me to do, but rather to fear not listening to and knowing Him as I should.
I thanked Mr. Lane for saying yes to God’s call because for this reason I am strengthened to also say yes, knowing by his example, I will not travel alone.
My prayer is that each of us allow this Lenten season be a time of emptying ourselves of hesitancy and of fear as we travel with our Lord on a sometimes long, uncomfortable and unknown path.
Like the trip He and I took last night, He uses every moment to speak and teach, encourage and guide. Thank Him and ride on.
