The Silicon Valley Roller Girl's Dot.Kamikazes proved that they are a consistent scoring and defensive threat when they put up a 159 - 63 victory over Humboldt Roller Derby's Redwood Rollers on Saturday night. The Silicon Valley girls got off to a slow start as they fell behind the Humboldt team early on in the first period. In the second jam of the night, Redwood Rollers jammer Sissy Jr. put up a 13 point jam putting the Rollers in the lead 13 - 4. But the Dot.Kamikazes quickly chipped away at the narrow deficit and jumped into the lead by the fourth jam when the score was 18 - 13. From that point forward, the Dot.Kamikazes maintained the lead and began to pile on the points as Humboldt struggled to crack the heavy San Jose defense. By halftime, the score stood at 83 - 32 Silicon Valley.
In the second half, the Dot.Kamikazes sealed their win on the strength of two double-digit jams by Death by Dollface and a twenty-five point jam by Pia Mess in the last minutes of the game. Though the Redwood Rollers were down by a large margin, they made steps towards evening up the score as they were able to hold the Dot.Kamikazes to just one point in five jams halfway through the second half. In the end, it wasn't enough to overtake the commanding lead that Silicon Valley had built up.
The majority of Humboldt's points were scored by Sissy Jr. She scored 33 points in nine jams despite only earning lead jammer status three times. The second highest scoring jammer for the team was workhorse McNasty who captured 16 points in ten jams and earned lead jammer status in half of her attempts. Sockeye scored four points in eight jams. Also scoring four points in each of their solo jammer tries were Anti-Hero and Honey Hex. Grrl Haggard picked up two points in one jam. Anya the Bunny Slayer, Avi N. Flew, and Muttley all tried their hand at jamming and were all held off the scoreboard.
While the Redwood Rollers jammed nine different skaters, Silicon Valley played their jammer rotation a little shorter and just five skaters donned the jammer star for this bout. The highest scoring jammer for either team was Death by Dollface who racked up an impressive 52 points in nine jams. She also earned lead jammer status seven times out of nine and served one penalty as a jammer. The second highest jammer was Pia Mess who score 46 points in six jams. Pia Mess averaged over seven points per jam and earned lead jammer status 66 % of the time making her the most effective jammer for the night. Smash N Burn scored 38 points in nine jams and Smack Dahlia picked up 23 points in ten jams. Postal Servix jammed twice but did not collect any points in either attempt.
As is often the case with fast and aggressive teams like the Dot.Kamikazes, they ran into a bit of penalty trouble. Rot Wheels, MisTits, and Pia Mess each served six minutes in the penalty box. Donna Diggler took five trips to the penalty box throughout the game. For the Redwood Rollers, Honey Hex and Muttley each served a total of four minutes in the penalty box. Miller Time sat for three total minutes. Silicon Valley committed a total of 77 minor penalties and 29 major penalties. Humboldt committed a total of 43 minor penalties and 16 major penalties.
With this win in the last game of their season, the Dot.Kamikazes went undefeated at home. They will resume play at home in 2010. The Redwood Rollers travel to sunny Southern California this weekend where they will take on the Hard Corps, a team from the San Diego Derby Dolls.

Thanks for the the write up Vee!
Even though Servix didn't score any points, we are still very proud of her (she ended up fracturing her foot some time during the double header). Not only has see stepped up her game this season but so has Death by Dollface (she has grown leaps and bounds as a jammer).
I also wanted to say that the Redwood Rollers were a wonderful team to work with on and off the track! Looking forward to working with them in the future :)
My impression was that the Dot Kamikazes have a good number of very effective jammers: all four did pretty well, where a typical team might only have one or two who are particularly effective in any given bout. But while it's the jammers who score the points, it's really the blockers in the pack who make it possible, particularly in power jam situations, where the Killabytes managed to very effectively control pack speed and clear the way for their jammers to get those high scoring jams, while keeping Humboldt jammers relatively contained when they had the advantage. The biggest problem is probably the penalties, but it seems like at least the Killabytes' jammers know to be extra careful, even Pia Mess.
Thanks for the write up Vee!
Humboldt had a great time, despite our loss, and our hats are off to SVRG for playing such a great game.
We look forward to meeting you on the track again in 2010.
Thanks for coming down Vee! Humbolt, you ladies are fun to skate with, and it was obvious you gave it your all. That was my first game with SVRG, and it was friggen fun!! Can't wait for 2010!!
