There’s still time for some last-minute Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza or other holiday gifts for the nature or national park lover in your circle.
Why not buy them a membership to the National Park Foundation, which is the charitable division of the National Park Service. The foundation raises money for interpretive programs in the parks, improvement projects and education.
Or, get them a couple of books about their favorite park. Books are the gift that keeps on giving. Your family or friends can read about the history of the park, the staff or just some fun facts about the ecology and animals in the park. I recommend the following books: A Natural History Guide to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Wind Cave National Park: the First 100 Years and Adios Amigos: Tales of Sustenance and Purification in the American West.
For the mystery lover, pick up the account of the disappearance of back-country ranger, Randy Morgenson, called The Last Season. This mystery delves into the ranger’s disappearance in a gripping book that the receiver will never be able to put down.
Don’t forget – There are only a couple of weeks until Christmas!
