It's been announced that Led Zeppelin legend and front man Robert Plant will tour North America this summer, promoting his new album to fans. The tour will include twelve cities and kicks off July 13, 2010 in Memphis Tennessee and will end on July 31, 2010 in Miami Florida. Accompanying him on the tour will be The Band of Joy comprised of vocalist Patty Griffin, multi-instrumentalist Darrell Scott, bassist Byron House, drummer Marco Giovino and guitarist Buddy Miller. In addition to appearing with him on his latest album, they also helped produce it.
The new album took the same type of direction as Plant's work did with Allison Krauss, more of the bluegrass genre and honestly, it suits Plant. He's still a legendary rock god to many, and always will be, but this new side of him only adds to his obvious creativity and talent. His collaboration with Krauss won them five Grammy awards and upon hearing the album they did together in its entirety, it's no surprise. Their harmonies were absolutely fluid and you can hear the new vitality in Plant's voice on both the album, and in his live performances.
No plans have been made to regroup with Krauss either in the studio or on tour. Although I'm sure fans would love to see them work together once again. Whatever direction Plant takes his journey will continue to greatness, and fans will be sure to follow him and enjoy this new groove of his.
