The Seattle concert calendar for this weekend feels a bit soft, but tonight, Thursday July 30, 2009, there are a handful of shows worth checking out:
Blue October play the Moore Theater tonight surrounded by the odd pairing of opening acts Switchfoot and Longwave…Switchfoot being an openly Christian band from San Diego, and Longwave playing a sort of New York take on Brit-pop. But then again there aren’t many single bands that would make sense with Blue October’s combination of intense rockers (“Hate Me” or “Say It”) and eccentric balladeering (“Into The Ocean”). The music begins after 7:30pm.
- Hot new Dubliners, The Script, are playing the Crocodile Café tonight in support of their self-titled record that features the singles “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” and the soon-to-be-hit “Breakeven”. Parachute, the band that sings the lovely ballad “She Is Love”, will open the show.
- For the hip-hop purists Wu-Tang head maestro, and co-star of the new film “Funny People”, RZA will be performing at Neumos with Boy Jones and 33 1/3, and Scribes. All-ages, doors at 8pm.
- Neo-folk-country-Eskimo artist Jewel will play the Woodland Park Zoo’s Zoo Tunes with doors opening at 5pm.
- Also, southern, blues guitar virtuoso Kenny Wayne Shepherd will be playing the Showbox at the Market. Show at 7pm.
