2/13/2010 Rochester Groovefest, 5pm @ The German House/The Keg, Rochester $10 advance, $15 DOS

Groovefest is a once (sometimes twice, or even thrice) a year event that highlights some of the area’s best musical talent. For seven years the nonprofit promotional forum RochesterGroove.com has been organizing marathons of music. The live events are usually put on two stages and showcase up to a dozen bands.

Rochestergroove.com was founded in 2001 to form a central online spot for Rochester area fans of the jam scene. Their goal is to facilitate a community of people who are passionate about local music. Rochestergroove.com focuses on local concerts and artists, but the site also promotes and discusses national bands and festivals.

The website has several boards, Krispy’s Studio is devoted to the distribution of taped live shows, and Shutterbug’s Studio is up to share photos of concerts and events. The cornerstone of RochesterGroove is the Inner Loop, a lively message board where musical minds meet to share information and promote upcoming shows. The site’s open forum creates a place for fans can chat with local musicians, and for producers and venues to set up performances.

The first Groovefest was in 2003, it was launched as a platform where local artists could jam together and interact with fans. Groovefests went on to become highly successful collective events. A few past Groovefests have been held club style at Milestones and festie style at Lightning Ridge Farms.

There have been so many Groovefests that Groovers have lost count, consensus is that they are somewhere around 15. February’s Groovefest will be held at the double stages of the German House and the Keg, 315 Gregory Street, Rochester. Turn on your lovelight, because 2010’s first Groovefest is on Saturday, February 13, the day before Valentine’s Day. The event goes from 5p.m. to 2a.m. (doors open at 4p.m.) and it will feature eight bands.

Here’s a breakdown of February’s Groovefest bands:

  • The Buddhahood: An orchestra of booty-shaking sound. Voted Best Original Band in Rochester by City Newspaper readers, three years running.
  • Park Ave. Band: Been rockin the Rochester jam scene for over 20 years.
  • The Druids: A saucy Grateful gravy.
  • Two Ton Ska: Presenting two tons of fun and music to the good people of the world
