Modest Mouse, No One's First and You're Next, Sony
Issaquah, Wash., natives and Indie rock heroes Modest Mouse lead the pack of new rock & roll this week with No One’s First, and You’re Next. The new EP features B-sides and newly recorded songs that didn’t make it on their last two studio albums, 2004’s Good News for People Who Love Bad News and 2007’s We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. To promote this release, the band issued three 7” limited edition, hand numbered singles over the past couple months: "Satellite Skin," "Autumn Beds" and "Perpetual Motion Machine." Also coinciding with the new collection is a music video for “King Rat” that was directed by Heath Ledger before his death in January 2008.
Another new release worth checking out is the second season of HBO’s series Flight of the Conchords. This New Zealand duo (Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement), although not technically rock—in fact, I believe they’re a.k.a.-ed as New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo—are ridiculously funny and should be seen by anyone looking for something to laugh at this week.
If I missed any new releases, or if you know about any good ones coming up, let me know. I’d love to hear about it.
