Drumming is probably the most difficult aspect of Rock Band, but also one of the most fun aspects. The drums are also the only instrument which will allow one to really learn how to play the instrument through the game. Here's a few ways to stretch the entertainment value of the drums in Rock Band 2.
One of the most irritating aspects of the drums is the kick drum pedal. When playing on expert, it is not uncommon to have many hits not registered because of the design of the stock pedal. To add to the problems, the pedals for both Rock Band 1 AND 2 are very fragile. There are several options online, but it seems the best is the Value Pedal MKI. Not only will that pedal improve accuracy, it is also much more durable than the stock pedals, and work in a way that is very much like a real kick pedal.
Another way to liven up the drums is to add cymbals to the mix. While they don't add any new content to the game itself, they can add a new level of immersion that will extend the entertainment life of the drums quite a bit, and add quite a bit of realism as well. While most retail stores only carry the 2-cymbal packs, the Rock Band 2 drum kit can handle 3 cymbals. While 2 cymbals are better than none, 3 cymbals will add the most to your experience.
