The annual South By Southwest Music Festival (better know as SXSW) attracts thousands of musicians, industry professionals and fans to Austin, TX each March.
Not only are there concerts, workshops and meet and greets, but panel discussions about hot music topics.
One of the topics this year involves the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum.
"Does Rock and Roll Belong in a Museum?" is on the agenda for March 18th--just three days after the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Good timing? Perhaps. Although the panelists which include Rock Hall employees should be prepared for a firing squad of questions from a typical indie rock crowd-- its music not particularly well represented in the Rock Museum.
According to interviews in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the goal of the panel will be to address the "relevance, importance and future of the preservation and educations about this art form (Rock and Roll)."
This forum will also give the Rock Hall executives a chance to recruit collections for the new Rock Hall Library and Archives set to open to the public later this year. The building was completed in late February in downtown Cleveland just a couple of miles from the Rock Museum. Archives not on display at the museum will be housed in the library.
