There's no question about it: When it comes to charity work, Twilight, Robert Pattinson, and other vampire-loving communities are ten steps ahead of the game.
In the weeks following the devastation in Haiti, Pattinson fansite Thinking of Rob worked hard to encourage donations and to get the word out to people about how they could help the country during its time of disaster. Rob himself appeared on George Clooney's well-organized Hope for Haiti Telethon. Fans from across the globe united to help raise money for a country that is struggling to get back on its feet in wake of an epic earthquake.
Now fans are uniting once again, this time to help the Red Cross collect blood donations.
Let Me Sign, a well-known Rob fansite, has teamed up with the Red Cross and fans of the Vampire Diaries and True Blood to bring you the Starve a Vampire, Give Blood Campaign. The campaign is designed to help the American Red Cross collect blood donations. According to the charity's website, 30% of Americans currently donate blood. The campaign will start March 1 and go through March 14. Fans are encouraged to make an appointment to donate blood during this time period, by visiting www.redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543).
Over the course of the last few years, vampires have exploded into a pop-culture phenomena. People all over the world have found themselves identifying with one, if not all, of the above mentioned fandoms. Just think how much of a difference would be made if every vampire fan who was physically able to donate blood went out and did it!
