Everybody loves a road trip! Whether it's across state lines or across the country, the thrill of cruising the open road, seeing historic sites, and eating the regional fare has become a favorite American past time. For some of us, it's also about meeting the locals, discovering a new city, or capturing photos opportunities of everything mentioned above. A favorite activity of mine has been discovering and taking photos of unique and interesting signs... In fact, during my travels, this has become a regular ritual.
In hindsight, the interest in "signs" started many years ago. Off the "beaten" path while driving through central California, a sign caught my attention for the California Boys Prison. Promptly turning around, I snapped almost a dozen photos from every conceivable angle. The sign was interesting, unique, and funny, an inside joke for a few of us. Hence, the love affair with signs began.
Traveling across the states to both coasts this past year gave plenty of opportunity to snap all types of new and interesting signs for multiple reasons; new food discovery: Chick fil-a; favorite new adventure: "moose sleuthing" on the North Shore; and favorite sign; don't feed the alligators, found at Hilton Head! The list goes on...
Assembling a photo collection of signs is hardly an art but it's a fun way to remember highlights from travel adventures; an interesting meal, a nostalgic memory or something that has given one a deep chuckle, like the California Boys Prison! While the collection is wide and varied, enjoy a few from my photo collection. You never know, one might pick up some travel tips along the way.
Finally, feel free to share your favorites signs by sending a copy to me @ maslipka@gmail.com. I'll share them in a future article. Happy travels!
