A short trip north to the new Choctaw Resort Casino Hotel

My husband and I recently visited the new Choctaw Casino Resort Hotel in Durant, Oklahoma. I went with low expectations since, in general, the experiences I have had at Casino hotels have be less than stellar. Let's suffice it to say that most hotels that have casinos that are easily accessible from Dallas are only interested in giving you a place to sleep so all the rest of your time you can spend gambling.
Not so at this resort. Things to do other than gamble include swimming in their indoor or outdoor heated pools. The Oasis is actually 4 pools and 4 spas with a water slide. Cabana's are available for socializing out of the sun. Snacks are available at the Cabana Grill.
There is a full spa, named the Oka spa. There is also a fitness center and a business center available for guests.
There are nine restaurants for guests to choose from. The very simplest is the Jackpot Java where they serve Starbucks coffee and snacks. The most elaborate is the 1832 SteakHouse. Again, let me say, that my dining experience has not been good at most casinos outside of Las Vegas. This restaurant was a most delightful exception. Their signature dish, slow roasted prime rib, was perfect. Very flavorful and cooked to our order. The sides of 3 times baked potato and light creamed spinach were quite good also. Our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable. We were favorable impressed.
Breakfast was at the 50's themed Blue Moon Cafe. Portions were plentiful enough that my husband and I could have shared an omelet. Other restaurants are Americo's, which serves pizza, Butterfields Buffet, Tomatillo Mexican Grill, Dixon's Grill and Salt Lick Bar-b-que. We had to save those for another visit.
Our room was very nice. Of, course, it helped that it is new, but the decor was tasteful and was furnished with higher quality furnishings than you find in most hotels. The bathroom was very spacious and well decorated. Each room has a coffee maker, blow drier, iron, and safe. I was surprised that there is no refrigerator. The Choctaw policy is that there is no alcohol served on any of their properties. I brought a bottle of wine for us to have before our dinner.
And, of course there is gambling. Table games and slots are available. The atmosphere is clean. The air system was quite good. Although I did smell smoke, I did not come away smelling like I had been the one smoking. The casino was brighter than what is customary. I liked that. In the evening there was a soloist singing in the lounge. Choctaw does have name entertainment in a seperate facility near by. Over all, the resort is beautiful. When you go, be sure to notice the art. It was spaced all around.
For a quick getaway, our visit to Choctaw was fun and relaxing. Maybe next time we will even win money. Oh well. Can't have everything.
