I call this a US78 road trip but Duke's is actually located North of Downtown Bamberg, SC on US301. Coming from Aiken/Augusta turn left at the stoplight in the middle of town. Duke's will be on the left-hand side about 3 miles from the junction.

The inside is decorated in early "country store" with stuffed ducks, tin signs, galvanized wash-buckets as lampshades, etc... It is also very large, so there is usually plenty of seating available. The in-house menu is buffet for $9 (including drink) for adults. This includes all you can eat meats, veggies, salads, and a wonderful variety of deserts.

Duke's offers a variety of BBQ sauces for their pulled pork. Carolina Gold (Mustard Based), a Ketchup based Red, and also a hot vinegar/pepper sauce that I really like. The drinks are your choice of lemonade or ice-tea (sweet and unsweet of course), no sodas here.

Take out is also available if you are headed through and don't have time to stop an enjoy your meal.

Duke's is open from Thursday to Sunday. On Sunday it is only open 11am until 2pm, to serve the after-church lunch crowd. They add extra meats to the buffet from what my secret sources tell me.

Definately worth the drive or a stop if you are anywhere near by.

Nothing will get a debate going like picking a "favorite" BBQ in SC, except maybe deciding on Mustard or Ketchup or Vinegar based sauces.

  • Yep.. it even causes debate within households. Almost as much as Clemson v. South Carolina
