Both presidential candidates have been accused of not meeting the Constitutional requirement that only "natural-born" citizens hold the presidency.
Last month a federal judge threw out a lawsuit seeking to remove John McCain from the California ballot because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone:
Judge William Alsup of Federal District Court ruled late Tuesday that the law at the time of Mr. McCain’s birth automatically granted citizenship to offspring of American citizens.
Mr. McCain’s parents were both citizens when he was born on Aug. 29, 1936, in the Panama Canal Zone, an American territory where his father was stationed with the Navy.
Obama still faces a legal challenge to his constitutional eligibility to be president.
A lawsuit, Berg v. Obama, brought by Philip J. Berg, a Philadelphia attorney, alleges Obama is not eligible to be president.
Instead of producing records proving Obama is a natural born citizen, Obama and the Democratic National Committee have filed a motion seeking a protective order to block production of documents until a motion to dismiss the law suit is ruled on by the court. Obama and the Democratic National Committee also claim attorney Berg has no standing - has no right - to bring the lawsuit.
What is it that Obama and the Democratic National Committee are trying to hide?
Why not just produce documents that prove Obama's citizenship and make the lawsuit go away?

Does it matter whether someone is a legal citizen to be president of the United States? Are you serious? Oh, that's right, one only needs to be a "citizen of the world" to be president. Why not, if it's that important, why don't we let the mob in Berlin get to vote? After all, isn't THEIR future affected by who's president of the U.S.?
The real question was only where was he born? You cannot lose your US citizenship by attending school in a foreign country or having you step-dad fill out school forms for you. According to USC 1481, you have to take one of several acts (none of which Obama took) with the willful intent of losing citizenship. The “evidence,” whether genuine or not, just doesn’t meet this test.

Obama loosely falls into - 'born outside US, 1 parent alien, 1 US citizen who lived in the U.S. for at least 5yrs. Except his mother receeded US Citizenship to take up Indonesian. Obama lived in Indonesia til 10yrs. Between birth in Kenya, Hawaii, Indo, his mother never got him US citizenship or naturalised.
I think on this one he is stuffed.
Unless it is all a mistake. So please Obama, submitt your Birth Certificate to Fed Court asap. Stop embarassing yourself.
Can you somehow get BERG to post copy of the Kenyan Birth Certificate (that Wanye guys obtained in July08, that Berg submitted as evidence) onto his and your website???

What he posted on the website is not an official Birth Certificate but merely a certification of birth. There is a legal difference as a certification of birth is not valid proof of citizenship.
No one has seen a copy of his birth certificate which is a much longer version of the computer generated short copy of a certification on the website.
I don't believe it exists because it would be nothing to just hand it over to the court and have the matter settled once and for all without all of these massive legal costs.
This is just one of many things the MSM continues to ignore when it comes to their candidate for the Presidency. It is disgusting that all of these issues are ignored Journalism is DEAD in America

This issue of Obama's citizenship is just the tip of a sovereignty crisis that will make the derivatives mess look like a broken piggy bank.

So many of you are arguing non-facts. Where's the evidence to suggest his mom renounced her citizenship? That wouldn't affect his citizenship anyway. Since he hasn't done anything to lose his citizenship (see law referenced previously), the only question is whether or not he was born in the US.
All indications are that he was.

YouTube has several videos of his African family. In them his grandmother says she was present at his birth. Yesterday, an Israeli news source printed the following:

Why is Obama reluctant to show his papers, if there is nothing wrong with them and in fact he was born in the US.

There's nothing Obama could produce that would make this go away. The official birth certificate does not satisfy Berg, because he claims Obama's mother lied to Hawaiian officials to obtain it.
I'm vehemently anti-Obama, and I spent most of the day yesterday looking into this. Berg's claim that Obama was born in Kenya is unsupported by any evidence at all. OTOH, the State of Hawaii has officially certified (the birth certificate has been independently verified by people on the right and the left) that Obama was born in Hawaii. It all comes down to Berg's credibility, which I think is seriously lacking.

I have a copy of my birth certificate, with the impressed seal from the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
It is the size of a large postcard.
It is absolute proof of US citizenship, and I used it to get my US Passport.
Where are the checks and balances in our system when it comes to verifying the citizenship of our candidates? This produces serious concerns. We cannot allow someone to become president in violation of the US Constitution. That is a fundamental fact. By not producing the proof of his citizenship status, he's made me feel he is hiding something. If Obama has nothing to hide, then he should produce the documents proving he's a citizen, and let it go at that. If not, the courts and Congress need to intervene immediately.
Eric Scheie: where is your proof that the state of Hawaii verified that the birth certificate is valid? This is simply not true. There is no such proof. The state of Hawaii considers Obama's records privilidged so they will not publically comment on private information. The full scale photo of the certificate supplied by Obama's campaign back in August 2008, to an Omaba tied Annenberg organization called FactCheck.org, is missing ever since Berg had the suspect photocopy evaluated as a possible fraudulent document.
First off, what was up there was not an original; It is a computer generated copy which would probably still be up there if it was an original printout from the state.
Secondly, Obama and the DNC are FIGHTING the disclosure of the originals to the court. Why? This is probably a phony certificate and that is why the original full sized doc is gone.

B. Hussein Obama produced an acknolodgement of birth not a birth cert. The Cert. listed on his website is a fake and this has been proven.
