Australian designer Nicky Zimmermann presented her Fall/Winter 2014 collection today during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. Last season in September she went with a circus theme and received inspiration from the art of the circus to design her Spring 2014 collection. Today, she took it back to where she came, she used a picture of her mother from Sydney, Australia. The photograph served as her inspiration, which guided her collection today, with the thought that the most simple things can create something beautiful...and that is what Zimmermann did today. She stayed true to her Australian roots and allowed different neighborhoods from Australia to help create this collection. Which made for an interesting presentation on the runway; Zimmermann showcased over-sized outwear pieces as well as luminous dresses to remind fashion goers that Fall can be flirty and sexy. Some pieces had cutouts among the midriff and sides, leaving very little to the imagination. There were an array of colors ranging from peach, mint blue, to lilac. The outwear pieces were poufy with popped collars, while one fur piece was sleeveless; a design I can only imagine that is meant to continue to embrace the trend of layering.
