YoYo's Game Maker Studio

Gamers have wanted to make their own video games ever since the release of Pong. The new generation of gamers does not remember the 8-bit or 16-bit revolutions, but their passion to create their own titles remains the same. There is an assumption that this requires knowledge of physics, computer programming, and a talent for graphic design. This is true for many games, but not all of them. Even when a game requires all of these things, modern studios divide these tasks between specialists. An individual who just wants to explore the process can download YoYo’s Game Maker Studio software.

Aspiring developers can buy the full software package for $800. If they just want to make games for one platform, they can buy the necessary module. The company claims that the Game Maker Studio can reduce development time for most games by 80 percent. While this is good news for professional game developers, it does not help the person who wants to learn how to make his own titles.

New users may find the interface daunting. Like Photoshop or AutoCAD, the user needs to overcome a steep learning curve to learn to use it effectively. The Game Maker Studio website offers a series of tutorials in PDF form. If someone does not want to learn Java, C++ or another complicated computer language can use the software to save time.
