One of the most popular genre of cult hit films are the fun cheesy monster flicks that usually make their way onto DVD or channels like SyFy. The latest Big Ass Spider! not only looks to have everything fans could want in this type of film, but also a great cast including Greg Grunberg, Ray Wise, Clare Kramer, and Lombardo Boyar. Could this film live up to the fun looking trailers and find its place in the world of the cult monster flick or will it need to be exterminated.

Big Ass Spider! follows a giant alien spider that escapes from a military lab and rampages the city of Los Angeles. When a massive military strike fails, it is up to a team of scientists and one clever exterminator to kill the creature before the city is destroyed. Anyone that goes into this film and is surprised by what they get is just stupid. The title says it all and lives up to the absurd fun that it promises. There is plenty of monster spider action to keep fans of the genre happy and begging for more. The effects are actually pretty good for the majority of the film. There are only a couple of moments that come off a bit cheesy, but you have to understand what you are getting with a low budget independent film like this. While these are fun elements, the film could have easily crashed and burned if not for Greg Grunberg and Lombardo Boyar. These two guys are clearly having a blast and it shows. Some of the most entertaining moments are not the spider, but the banter between these guys. They have some really funny moments that are a bit subtle as well as some blatant cheesy fun.

This is sure to become another cult monster hit that fans will have a blast with. It has everything you could want in this sort of film and is sure to entertain. Sure there are some moments that are pretty cheesy and bad, but that is part of the charm. This is one of those films that is geared towards a particular audience and it will surely deliver. Let’s just hope we haven’t seen the last of the Big Ass Spider!
