National Yoga Month is drawing to a close, but you can continue your yoga practice with these DVDs:
AM & PM Yoga for Beginners
AM & PM Yoga for Beginners instructor Elena Brower is a certified Anusara Yoga teacher and founder of Virayoga in New York City. Her yoga DVD features two 30-minute programs. Each sequence contains modified poses and you can work towards more challenging versions.
The AM sequence goes through proper breathing and basic poses to tone the body. The PM sequence helps to relieve tension and stress and inspire well-being, while lengthening and opening muscles with gentle twists and poses like cobra and pigeon pose and other asanas that tone the body and mind and prepare you for a restful sleep.
AM & PM Yoga for Beginners (66 minutes, Element, $14.98 SRP). For information visit AnchorBayEnt.com.
Power Yoga
Power Yoga is a total body “power vinyasa” workout taught by LA yoga instructor Ashley Turner that concentrates on body, mind and spirit while developing strength, and cleansing the body from the inside out. A series of poses tone the entire body as cleansing breaths detoxify the body and mind. The program works all major muscle groups and improves flexibility.
Power Yoga (63 minutes, Element $14.98 SRP).
Shiva Rea/A.M. Energy
Even more challenging is world-renowned yoga instructor Shiva Rea’s A.M. Energy Morning Practices. The DVD opens with a Meditation Core Awakening (5 minute) warm-up/meditation that in certain parts reminds me of belly dancing. The DVD has three 20-minute practices. The first, Body Mandala, is a toning and strengthening program. It’s not the typical yoga practice; it’s more fluid with challenging movements that cultivate core strength. Shakti Flow is a free form movement, also very fluid and dance-like to generate energy, improve circulation and brighten your mood. Vira Flow is for physical balance and mental concentration. The DVD also includes a bonus 20-minute Heart Salutation from Shiva’s Radiant Heart DVD.
A.M. Energy (71 minutes, plus bonus, Acacia, $19.99 SRP). For more information visit acacialifestyle.com.
