Y&T (originally known as Yesterday & Today) is an American hard rock/heavy metal band formed in 1974. They hail from Oakland, California. The band released two studio albums on London Records as Yesterday & Today in the 1970s, before shortening their name to Y&T and releasing several albums on A&M Records beginning in 1981, as well as albums on Geffen Records, ">Avex Records, and others. The band was originally co-managed by Herbie Herbert (who also managed Journey) and Louis "Lou" Bramy. The band has sold over 4 million albums worldwide to date.
Saturday April 28, 2012 rock band Y&T hit the stage at The Knitting Factory Concert House in downtown Reno along with local rockers Scarlet Presence.
Y&T's set lasted nearly two hours and went something like this, (from the set list on stage).
"Open Fire", "Black Tiger", "Don't Wanna Lose", "Lipstick & Leather", "Afraid Of The Dark", "Meanstreak", "Midnight In Tokyo", "Summertime Girls", "Shine On", "Blind Patroit", "Winds Of Change", "Contagious", "I'm Coming Home", "I'll Cry", "Eyes Of A Stranger", "Dirty Girl", "Hurricane", "I Believe", "Forever" and one encore song, "Rescue Me".
Only one word can describe a Y&T show and that word is FANTASTIC.
Nearly 500 die-hard Y&T fans showed up to rock and were not disappointed in the least. Even with bassist Brad Lang's taped up finger, they did not miss a beat. Lang cut his finger in between the last show and this one, he had a finger splint taped up with black tape. His wife custom made him some picks using rubber cement and a little sand.(normally he does not use a pick)
Today's line-up still features co-founder Dave Meniketti (lead guitar and vocals), John Nymann (guitars), Mike Vanderhule (drums) and Brad Lang (bass) who replaced original bassist and co-founder Phil Kennemore who passed away from cancer in January of 2011.
Y&T comes to Reno every year, don't miss them the next time they come back, you won't be sorry.
Also on the bill were Reno locals Scarlet Presence. This examiner has seen many of Reno's local bands and can't understand how I missed this one, they rocked the house. Keep an eye out for these guys, they are very good.
